The head of this bay dries at low tide.
Good anchorage in all but SE winds can be found for about three boats in the cove on the northern side.
Various cables are laid across the bottom of the bay so care must be taken when anchoring there.
A stern line is recommended.
The anchorage to the south of Waterfall Bay is good shelter in SE to W winds.
There is public road access to Waterfall Bay, which leads from the Port Marlborough wharf at the head of the north-west arm of the bay.
It is a brisk half hour walk to Te Mahia. When reaching the Havelock road at the saddle, turn to port and the road to Te Mahia branches off to starboard a short way down the hill.
Vessel speed is restricted to 5 knots with a 5 knot speed buoy.
