Opua Bay is a little too open for peaceful overnight anchorage in fresh or strong winds.
There is however shelter from northerly to north westerly winds in the northern side.
The eastern coast of this bay is shallow.
At the head of the bay there is a road access barge ramp for log barges which come and go continuously during harvesting times.
