Nikau Bay is the only one with any depth of water in this whole area along the Hikapu Reach.
It is affected by the wash of vessels passing in Hikapu Reach and generally is not a comfortable overnight anchorage.
There is anchorage between the shore and the mussel rafts on the south east side. There are isolated rocks near the shore that are covered at high water.
The eastern end of the bay acts as a wind funnel in southerly conditions.
