The small township of Manaroa is at the southern end of this bay. There is access to it from the Linkwater Road via Portage and Waitaria Bay.
The southern head of the bay is shallow.
Because this bay lies in a north-west/south-east direction, it is completely open to all the prevailing winds.
NW winds blow with considerable force through here, as they build up through Tawhitinui Reach and then continue into Clova Bay and over the low saddle through to Waitaria Bay.
SW to S winds act in reverse. This bay is not recommended for anchorage.
