Rakiura Rocks
History
Named after the steamer, the Rakiura, that was wrecked on these rocks on 14 April 1915.
An inquiry into the incident found the captain guilty of a judgement of error for failing to stop and wait for daylight when nearing a dangerous coast. No lives were lost in the incident.1
