The coast here rises steeply and there are no beaches. Rocks extend the full length of the shore with deep water up to them. The sea along this coast is relatively calm in NW winds. Tidal streams set north with the rising tide and south with the falling tide. Within a mile from the shore, the tidal stream changes about half an hour after the Tory Channel streams. Further out, the tidal streams are less predictable and the table on chart NZ46 should be consulted.
